Some of the best meals in life aren’t found in fine dining restaurants but in the heart of bustling streets. The sizzling sound of oil, the aroma of spices, and the cheerful chatter of people create an atmosphere you can’t replicate anywhere else.
During my recent walk through Kolkata’s College Street, I stopped by a tiny stall serving Phuchkas (the Bengali cousin of golgappas). Watching the vendor skillfully crack open the hollow shells, fill them with spicy potato mix, tangy tamarind water, and hand them over one by one was pure theatre.
Each bite was an explosion of flavors—crispy, spicy, tangy, and utterly addictive. The best part? Sharing the experience with strangers who stood around the same stall, nodding and smiling in approval after every crunchy mouthful.
Street food isn’t just about eating—it’s about culture, connection, and community. It’s where you taste the soul of a city in its rawest form.
